RWS Certificate

The purpose of the RWS certification (Responsible Wool Standard) is to provide the industry with the best possible tool for verifying good practices — ensuring that wool comes from farms with a progressive and responsible approach to animal husbandry and land management, while also providing appropriate social standards.

The certification provides a robust system for monitoring the traceability of the raw material, from the farm to the final product, so that consumers can be confident about the origin of the wool used in the products they choose.

RWS at farm level

Sheep from farms certified under the Responsible Wool Standard

At this level, the RWS certification focuses primarily on animal welfare, supported by controlled land quality, humane shearing practices, environmental protection and the welfare of farm workers.

Animal husbandry must be based on the Five Freedoms, which means ensuring that animals are free from:

  • hunger;
  • thirst;
  • pain;
  • fear;
  • discomfort — and that they are able to express their natural behaviour.

Mulesing is strictly prohibited.

The management of land on which sheep are grazed should be based on the protection of biodiversity.

The standard also covers working conditions, including the health and safety of farm workers.

Starting at farm level, every subsequent stage of the supply chain is also audited by independent certification bodies.

RWS at brand level

We introduced RWS certification for most of our products in 2023, and since 2025 our clothing has also been covered by the certification.

To maintain certification as a company producing merino wool hats, accessories and clothing, we must undergo regular audits. During these audits, we are required to demonstrate that each of our subcontractors follows procedures that ensure the traceability of the raw material.

This means ensuring that the entire process is transparent and open, while keeping detailed records of the weight of the yarn, the finished products and post-production waste. The purpose of this monitoring is to demonstrate that no abuse takes place and that we do not sell more certified products than could realistically be produced from the certified materials available to us.
